Will Lottery Kill Video Poker?
27th of February 2006
In North Carolina many officials would love to see the end of video poker, all the way up, seemingly, to the office of the state’s governor. Gov Mike Easley brought it up last year during a press conference, suggesting that one way they could apply some pressure to video poker machine operators was to use the upcoming lottery to give players a choice; win big bucks in the lottery, or play video poker. The idea was to give retailers a choice as well; if you want to care lotto machines in your store, you need to ditch the video poker machines.
The establishment of the lottery in North Carolina has no legislative impact on video poker just yet, but with the talk trickling down from the office of the governor, it may just be a matter of time before the lottery and video poker becomes an either or proposition.
