Smart Card Could Limit Australian Poker Gaming
18th 2006f April 2006
Last year the Australian Gambling Minister Michael Wright said "no thank you" to the idea of a poker smartcard. This year the new Gambling Minister says he will consider the merits of any option that will lead to what he refers to as harm minimization, including the poker smartcard. Should the poker smartcard program go forward, it could mean forced limitations on Australian gambling.
The smartcard would impose limits on problem gamblers, tracking their use of poker machines and making it impossible for them to go beyond a certain limit. The minister, Paul Caica, says he will consider the merits of anything that leads to harm minimization, not just poker smartcards.
