Poker Players Seek to Change Poker Law in South Carolina
11th 2006f June 2006
In South Carolina it is against the law to play games of dice and cards. The fact that this law was written more than 200 years ago is not lost on a group of poker players who are or rested when police raided a poker game in April. The police took away nearly $6,000 and arrested the 22 players. 18 of those players have asked for a trial by jury when pleading not guilty. They want to use this trial as a staging area in an attempt to change the law written in 1802.
The other four players, out-of-towners who wanted to put the whole affair behind them, paid the $100 fine issued by the judge after pleading guilty.
