Poker Machine Addiction Concerns Raised in South Australia
08th 2006f August 2006
The South Australian Government is taking steps to combat poker machine addiction by reducing the number of poker machines by around 3000. Hoping to reduce the overall effect of the machines on problem gamblers, the SA government is receiving criticism from a number of camps, including anti-gambling outfits. The Provincial Cities Association says that reducing the number of machines has had no effect on poker machine addiction. The Asociation has hired the South Australian Center for Economic Studies to conduct a study on poker machine addiction in order to support their theory. The chief executive of the Provincial Cities Association, Ian McSporran, believes that hard facts can hopefully sway the South Australian government to do more for battling poker machine addiction than reducing the number of machines.
