Poker Dealers Face Extinction
20th of September 2006
It appears that the day could soon come when it will be difficult to find a poker dealer. If the digital poker table manufacturer PokerTek has its way, tournament tables will all be electronic. The digital table is regulation size and the cards appear on the table screen face down and you tap on them to peel them up. Your chips are on the screen as well and that has some players feeling a little empty as the feeling of owning a big stack is gone.
A device called PokerPro has been installed in casinos in Florida, Oklahoma and on cruise ships. One reason players seem to like the table is that they don't have to tip the dealer.
Other companies are also entering the market for digital poker tables and demand is apparently good. It could be that the live poker dealer is on borrowed time.
