Online Poker Played by Swedish Credit Card Thief
04th of May 2006
A handful of Skaraborg, Sweden, residents were in for shock when they found an average of 10,000 kronor charged up on their credit card accounts, mostly for online gaming at poker sites the nine victims claimed to have never signed on to. According to bank statements, the money stolen from them was spent at Internet poker web sites, sites all nine have sworn they have never visited. Swedish police began to put together a profile with this data in order to determine who the criminal might be.
One thing that all nine victims had in common was that each had given patronage to the same location and used their credit cards there. According to police, a cashier at this location was able to record the credit card numbers and either sold the information or used it for online gambling.
