Online Poker Could Mean Billions to US Government
23rd 2006f July 2006
With legislation moving one step closer to completely outlawing online poker and other forms of online gambling in the US, except for horse racing in the lottery, the timing of a study produced and commissioned by the Poker Players Alliance could not have been better. The study shows that the United States government stands to profit in a big way if only they would regulate online poker, rather than making it illegal in persecuting the companies and players who partake. The online gambling industry worldwide is worth some $12 billion and an income tax alone, the United States government stands to make around $2.5 billion per year, according to the study. All told it could be $3.3 billion per year to the US government in taxes and regulation fees and licensing.
