Nearly $50,000 Paid to Play in a $1000 Event
05th 2006f August 2006
In the world of competitive professional poker one of the most interesting types of tournament poker events is called the "re-buy". A re-buy event is essentially any other kind of event that gives a player the opportunity to pay their buy in to get back into the tournament if they run out of chips. This gives a player the opportunity to be more reckless than they otherwise would be for the chance of scoring a big prize. The re-buy is usually allowed for the first few hours of the game during which, at Event 34 in this year's World Series of Poker Daniel Negreanu bought back in 48 times. As the event was a $1000 No-Limit Hold 'em game, this meant that he paid $49,000 to play. Unfortunately he did not land in the money, chalking up his $49,000 investment as a loss.
