Louisiana Poker Battle Brought to Governor's Feet

Governor Kathleen Blanco could not have been more clear when she said that if a bill was brought to her and she interpreted it in any way as an expansion of gambling, she would veto it with no hesitation. As a result lobbyists behind two bills that certainly would have bettered the situation for video poker in Louisiana decided not to attempt a moral victory by pushing their measures through the state's House of Representatives, but rather ended their bid on their own.
Citing reasons that included a desire to put their energies behind something they knew had a chance, rather than something they knew would just die on the vine once it hits the governor's office, the representatives stopped their bills, which would have increased the allowable bet on video poker machines, and put more of those machines at truck stops throughout the state.
