Local Officials Flooded with Poker Spam
08th of April 2006
Two years ago local city and county officials passed on the establishment of a poker room at the Sarasota Kennel Club. Now these officials are reopening the issue for debate thanks to a grassroots campaign that took things into the 21st century. The inboxes of the officials became overwhelmed by an e-mail campaign that started on March 8 as supporters of the proposed poker room began to send their opinions en masse to those who make the decisions. A special spam filter was programmed and set up in order to deal with this problem, but by the time it was implemented the damage was done. Officials, some who say they speak to a dozen poker fans a day on the issue, have agreed to reopen the debate and reconsider putting a poker room in the Sarasota Kennel Club.
