Iowa State University Poker Still A Hit

Iowa State University has had a new tradition, one that is a favorite with the college students since 2003; Texas Hold’em poker. The Recreation Services unit hosts each semester’s Hold’em poker event, which always draws a crowd of enthusiasts. Ever since the first Iowa State intramural Texas Hold’em tournaments, however, concerned critics have asked if this encourages college students to go out and play real money games or other wise gamble online.
Up to 220 students show up every semester to play the uber-popular poker game, competing against each other for bragging rights and fun instead of cash. The timing of the start of Iowa State’s event coincides with the start of the World Poker Tour, the TV program that is thought to have ignited the poker fire that has swept the globe.
