Investigation Launched Against Florida Poker Rooms
02nd 2005f December 2005
After the confusing changes in Florida State gambling regulations have taken effect, the Director of the Florida State Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering announced this Tuesday that his department will be investigating certain gambling for suspected rules violation regarding the recent poker legislation. The director David Roberts kept the identity of specific groups that are being investigated a secret, but he did express concern over the general state of jai alai frontons and racetracks that are not adhering to poker room regulations.
The Department of Business and Professional Regulation was the first to initiate the confusion when it acted to repeal the initial ruling regulating how tournament-style poker games, such as Texas Hold 'Em, would be run; this is when Roberts launched his investigation. An appeals court supported a judge’s decision that the law did not give regulators the needed powers to make rules for tournaments, which is what prompted the repeal of all the rules.
Owner of the Jefferson County Kennel Club Steve Andris speaks for many when he says that he does not understand exactly what is happening due to the complication of the rules.
