Illegal Poker Ring Charges Dropped
03rd of October 2006
District attorneys cleared a hotel owner and his friends of illegal gambling charges. Dorian Faught, owner of Murphy's Hotel, and two of his employees could breathe a sigh of relief after prosecutors announced that they would not be going forward with prosecution of the defendants for the misdemeanor charges. The charges were the result of a two-month sting during which two undercover Gambling Control agents infiltrated the "friendly game" of poker at the hotel after receiving an anonymous tip. Martin Horan, a special agent with Gambling Control, stated that a so called "friendly game" of poker is permitted if no profit is generated by the game's operation and the game is held in a private home. Faught and company might have had to spend up to a year in county jail and pay up to $10,000 in fines if convicted.
