Could your Online Poker Transactions Get Blocked?
19th 2005f September 2005
Thursday the U.S. Senate voted on an attempt to block money transfers to Internet gambling sites. Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl was pushing for a move that would hamstring American citizen’s ability to gamble online. The motion was turned aside by the Senate, but Senator Kyl swore he would try again and again.
The attempt was made to attaché special language restricting Internet gambling to an annual spending bill that is required to be passed at some point this year. Kyl’s specific attempt was thwarted less on merit and more because an unnamed Democrat objected to attaching Kyl’s unrelated issue to the spending bill.
"We will proceed with this; it will become law at some point at some time," said on Kyl. "There should be no reason why we can't move forward on this."
The attempt, if successful at some point in the future, would require banks and credit card companies to deny money transfers to and from online poker rooms and casinos.
