California Poker Tourney Underway
26th 2005f September 2005
Many who watch World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour might be under the impression that poker tournaments are for the national and international set, that to have the Tournament experience one needs to be in Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Well the last two weeks in California has shown that you can find great tourney action right close to home.
The California State Poker Championship has run the last two weeks with buy ins as low as $300 and as high as $2,000. The main event, to be held like all preceding events at the Commerce Casino outside of Los Angeles, is set up for September 23 with a $5,000 buy in.
Actor and poker fan Ben Affleck was last year’s champ, winning $356,400 as well as a seat in the WPT championship worth $25,000. It is not known if he will be at the final event this year.
