23 Year Old Wins Canadian Open Poker Event
22nd of March 2006
Huck Seed didn't do it. Neither did local professional poker player Brad Booth. It was a 23 year old James Lopushinsky who become the first ever Canadian Open Poker Champion, once again showing that poker can be a game anyone can win. One of the true appeals of poker is that "everyman" factor, displayed for the first time to a global audience when Chris Moneymaker, then a non professional poker player, won the 2003 World Series of Poker. Making maters worse (or better, depending on your perspective) James is the protege of Booth, who began teaching Lopushinsky poker about a year and a half ago when he was hired to build a poker able for a poker club run by Booth. He later was hired to deal at the same club.
